As a teacher, we will be dealing with Fair Use and Copyrights on a consistent basis, but the ways that we respect these laws and use the information correctly will prove to be a very important aid. While copyrighting is a means of protecting your intellectual property legally, there are some ways that teachers will be able to use them. With some items being put into the fair use category, as long as it is truly educational and never for commercial use we have the ability to use certain copyrighted items, as long as the specification and citation is present. But with all rights reserved to the owners, we will be able to use certain things and excerpts without having to worry about breaking the law.

I find that although technology will be extremely important, we should be sure to focus on the ethical use of it at the forefront. While students are young, we should teach them the moral avenues necessary for technological use, and do our best to prevent plagiarism and cyber-bullying. If we set a precedent early, and explain how the internet should be used, we will be able to teach people how to cite things much earlier than I was taught, alongside showing how to be friendly on social media. If you are mean on the internet, then that defeats the purpose of connecting the world on a global scale, and if you steal information that also completely defies the principles of information trading on the internet.

When working on the Newsletter design assignment, I actually learned quite a bit about microsoft word. I think the things that I could do better in the future would be to get the margins looking a little better, but I found that I did a reasonably good job for being notoriously bad with computers. I find that I was able to figure out how to use columns fairly quickly, but that was the only thing that was a quick figure out for me. I think that the skills I learned doing this assignment will be quite useful for future assignment creation, alongside newsletters and information that can be sent home. I think that this was a useful assignment, and although technology is always difficult for me, I think that I can use the information that I learned here to better my future endeavors as a teacher.

  1. Hey Brad! I agree that teaching morals and internet courtesy to students at a young age will help to deter any cyberbullying. I also think that its important to have actual consequences if a student plagiarizes or cyberbullies.
