Throughout all of my schooling, I have spent a lot of time on Microsoft Word. Probably more than any other software when it comes to school, and honestly I think it is my favorite word processing software. I tried out google docs for awhile, but they never really felt quite right when it all came down to it. I thought that MS Word was really complicated when I was in elementary and middle school, but now that I have learned how to actually navigate the menus a little more, and gotten some more experience with it, its really not too bad.
When looking into the ISTE standards for educators, I find that the Citizen Standard is by far the most important for educators to lean into. As educators of younger people, you must show them that there is a democratic standard involved with information sharing, and that all information can be at your finger tips, in an incredibly ethical way. While focusing on keeping your personal information safe, there are so many ways to learn, literally with a world of knowledge at your fingertips. We no longer live in an age where it is reasonable to be ignorant, and we must promote the seeking of information, and the ways to differentiate what is true and what is fabricated.
The final avenue that I shall explore would be the term "digital native". While I do truly believe that this term applies to me, I feel as though the next age will be even more versed in technology than my generation. Having learned to read by playing the game Pokemon Red version, I find that technology is something that has come pretty easily to me. While there are differences between the generations, I think that the "digital immigrant" age can have as easy of a time learning how to use technology as the "native" age, due to the fact that my 62 year old stepmom is one of the most well versed individuals with computers that I have ever met in my life. I think that technology will become a much larger part of the education structure for the next wave of students, but I truly believe that this is a positive thing for society.
