Journal Entry 5

My early interactions with twitter have been minuscule in nature to be honest, but I do not tend to use social media anyway. While I recognize the importance of using theses sites, and how the influence of social media grows constantly I am trying to hold off on it for a little while. When I have used it though, I really do enjoy seeing some of the things published by NPR, since it posts links to the articles as they come out in real time. While I think that twitter might not be the tool, I know that some form of social media will dominate social network that we are all a part of.

I really do think that the digital divide is something that greatly affects students in school as we are seeing now, especially due to COVID. While there are people who do not have internet at their house, we have lost the ability to loiter at places like coffee shops and other "free wifi" destinations, and its proving slowly but surely that since internet is a necessity, it should be subsidized for all people to have. We have run out of the time that internet can be considered a luxury, and it has been shown that job applications, homework, and so many other things can only be received online. While a teacher I will do my best job to ensure that there are both digital and tangible options for the homework, so that this issue is not as pertinent.

When it comes to academic software, I find that although we are all learning how to use citations on our own, that apps such as Grammerly should be purchased for students. While knowing how to correct sitations will always be perfect, I find that people losing points over vague technicalities should never be that huge of a risk, and apps that aid citations would be a huge help. Alongside this, it is already being taught in some schools but Photoshop is an incredibly useful tool that we would be foolish not to promote. This would be a great idea for students to understand because not only would it encourage visuals on projects, but it could also show that pictures should be looked at very carefully to ensure that you are actually witnessing the real thing.

  1. I am a strong believer that Adobe products should be taught in standard education. I have interacted with these products in the professional world just as much as I have interacted with Microsoft Office Products. They are tools for more than just graphic designers, they equip students to be able to create beautiful projects that will help them succeed. Softwares like
Photoshop should definitely be taught in schools!
